Omron Healthcare & Fitness Expert Bob Greene Encourage Americans to Make Every Step Count

New Videos Provide Tips to Help Americans Meet the Recommended 10,000 Steps per Day LAKE FOREST, Ill. – March 2, 2012 – Despite recommendations that suggest the average American should take around 10,000 steps a day to maintain proper fitness, many people take about half of that, averaging5,117steps daily. Even people in professions known for being on-the-go are often falling short when it comes to meeting walking goals. For example, according to data published by the National Institutes of Health and American Council on Exercise, physicians and nurses are logging on average 5,325 and 8,648, respectively. Coming in furthest from the 10,000-steps goal are office workers, taking an average of only 4,327 steps a day, followed by teachers, who average at about 4,726 steps. Many people find it hard to carve out time in their busy schedules to fit in daily exercise, such as a gym class, a run on the treadmill or a long walk outside. However, daily exercise, added to the steps most peopleare already taking during the workday, can add up to the 10,000-steps goal. To help Americans walk more, Omron Healthcare, Inc. and Bob Greene, Oprah Winfrey’s personal trainer and author of the book “20 Years Younger,” have teamed up to create four new videos to encourage Americans to put a spring in their step and start tracking their progress daily. These motivational videos can be found at the Omron Facebook page . “What many people don’t realize is that exercise doesn’t have to require a huge time commitment and can actually fit into your daily routine – all it takes is adding a few extra...

Take Heart During American Diabetes Month

Simple Steps, Like Daily Home Blood Pressure Monitoring,  May Help Manage Risk Factors for Diabetes LAKE FOREST, IL (October 13, 2011) – According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), recent estimates project that as many as one in three American adults will have diabetes in 2050. The ADA has named the month of November American Diabetes Month to help educate people on simple ways they can help manage, control and even prevent early signs of the disease – such as high blood pressure.  High blood pressure affects up to 60% of people with diabetes, so taking steps to successfully keep your numbers in check may help reduce risk factors associated with high blood pressure and diabetes, including diabetic eye disease and kidney disease. One such step is monitoring your blood pressure from home on a daily basis. A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine It found that multiple home readings – rather than relying on those taken at the doctor’s office – provide a more accurate picture of blood-pressure control, potentially leading to better treatment.  Omron Healthcare Inc., the number one brand recommended by doctors in the home blood pressure category, has been committed to developing not only validated monitors, but monitors that fit all lifestyles, and this is especially important for people searching for a monitor they can easily use. “American Diabetes Month reminds us that there’s no better time than now to prioritize your health,” said Jeff Ray, Omron Healthcare’s Senior Product Manager, blood pressure. “Even beyond diabetes, high blood pressure affects 74 million – or one out of three – people in the US, and...
